The OptoSplit III LS has been designed as a convenient, inexpensive solution for simultaneous multi-wavelength imaging. Traditionally, multi-wavelength imaging experiments required that multiple images be captured sequentially. However, because the various images were not taken at the same time, temporal artifacts, caused by intracellular movement, often appeared between exposures.  To eliminate these temporal artifacts and provide the most accurate measurements, the OptoSplit III allows three images to be acquired simultaneously.
The images captured by the OptoSplit III contain information from three different emission bands and can be processed using commercially available software packages. Alternatively, the images can be processed manually. While it is optimized for coupling to a scientific microscope, the OptoSplit III can also be used with camera lenses or any other system of lenses that produce an image plane of a suitable size.
