The OptoSplit II LS has been designed as a convenient, inexpensive solution for simultaneous dual wavelength imaging. Traditionally, dual-wavelength imaging experiments required that two images be captured sequentially. However, because the two images were not taken at the same time, temporal artifacts, caused by intracellular movement, often appeared between exposures. To eliminate these temporal artifacts and provide the most accurate measurements, the OptoSplit II allows both images to be acquired simultaneously.
The images captured by the OptoSplit II contain information from two different emission bands, and can be processed using commercially available software packages. Alternatively, the images can be processed manually. While it is optimized for coupling to a scientific microscope, the OptoSplit II can also be used with camera lenses or any other system of lenses that produce an image plane of suitable size.
